RACINE - Mary Lou Manalli (née: Zak) passed away June 6, 2014 with her loving family by her side. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. Mary Lou was born on November 4, 1926 to the late Charles and Marie (née: Nemitz) Zak. She and Jack were married at Immanuel Episcopal Church on October 19, 1946 and celebrated over 67 years of marriage. Mary Lou was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School. She was employed by Wisconsin Energies and the Racine Water Department prior to raising three daughters as a stay at home Mom. Mary Lou and Jack were founding members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in 1960, where she served on various positions, altar guild, church school teacher and St. Martha's Guild. She also served as a teacher's assistant at Jerstad Elementary for Several years. She and Jack were members of the Model A Ford Club of Wisconsin and America for over thirty years. Jack referred to her as his "Chief" mechanic for she assisted him in the restoration of their 1930 Model A, "Nelly Belle". Mary Lou was also known by all her grandchildren, great-grand- children and neighborhood kids for her bubble gum machine. Young or old, you got a stick of gum in your greeting card or a bag of gumballs to take home. Mary Lou is survived by her husband and best friend, Jack; and her beloved daughters, Susan of Racine, Sandra (Michael) Vogelman and Sara of Greenfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul (Lori) Vogelman, Jennifer (Jim) Diedrick and Rachel (Matt) Caelwarts; eight great- grandchildren, Stephanie Vogelman, Cody, Tyler, Jessica and Emily LaBay, Ashley Diedrick, Logan and Bristol Caelwarts; and her brother-in-law, Gilbert (Susan) Manalli. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Christiansen, Alice Habetler and Mildred Kasprovich. Funeral services for Mary Lou will be held at St. Michael's Church, 4701 Erie Street, on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dustin Fecht officiating. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to St. Michael's Memorial Fund or Harvest Outreach Food. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staffs at Lakeshore Manor and Hospice Alliance for all the loving and compassionate care provided to Mary Lou.
