We gather in loving memory of Mary Fleming, affectionately known to all as "Big Momma," who, at the age of 72, peacefully departed this world on October 29, 2023, at the Menorah Nursing Home in Brooklyn, New York. Mary was born on December 11th 1950 in Brooklyn New York. She was the heart and soul of her family and a true friend to all who knew her.

Mary's educational journey began and blossomed in Brooklyn, where she remained throughout her life.

Her heart found its match in Daryl Monroe, and though he left this world before her, their love remained a guiding force in her life. Together, they navigated life's challenges and joys, a testament to the enduring power of love.

Big Momma's presence was larger than life. Her laughter filled rooms, and her kindness knew no bounds. She opened her home to those in need, asking only respect for her treasured pots and pans in return—a small price for the warmth and safety she provided.

Her passion for soap operas, the thrill of wrestling matches, and the anticipation of a good card game were simple pleasures that brought her immense joy. But nothing compared to the delight of cooking a Thanksgiving feast, her favorite holiday, where she enjoyed the company of family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of gathering, of stories, and of memories made around heaping plates of food.

Big Momma will be fondly remembered by her baby brother David Fleming, her goddaughter Makeba Williams, her nephew Curtis, her niece Jasmine, and a loving tapestry of cousins and friends who were like family. Each one of them carries a spark of her spirit, her generous heart, and her infectious laughter.

Mary was preceded in eternal rest by her beloved mother Betty Fleming, her brothers Walter, Robert, and Curtis Fleming, and her cherished Daryl Monroe. We find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with them once more.

We invite all who knew and loved Mary to gather in celebration of her life on November 7, 2023, from 3 PM to 7 PM at Coney Island Chapel Funeral Home. In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated, leaving us with the warmth of her memory, which burns as brightly as her spirit did in life.
