Marvin A. RobbinsMarvin A. Robbins, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2013 in his Lafayette residence after a 22 month illness. He was born on June 4, 1934 to the late Harry and Gladys (Brand) Robbins in Clarks Hill where he was raised and attended school. Marvin began his lifelong career in construction and heavy equipment operation after serving six years in the U.S. Army. He was a supervisor for Van Meter Constuction in Lafayette, and Shuck & Sons and Gradex, both of Indianapolis. He worked statewide on many large projects before retiring in 1997, and was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 103. Marvin was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and a loyal member of Beta Phi Sigma Fraternity, where he had served as president for three years. He was also a member of the Johnson's Ballroom Dance Club, the Eagles and Moose lodges, both of Lafayette as well as a member of the Monticello, IN. American Legion. Marvin was a fan of both Purdue University and Franklin College football, and a fan of the Chicago Cubs. He loved classic cars, and enjoyed showing his red Spitfire at car shows in the Midwest. Marvin proudly took the honor of 1st Place Spitfire at the Eastern Region SPIT-TOGETHER in Carlisle, PA in May 2008. Marvin had three children from his first marriage, two sons from Lafayette, Robert (Annette) Robbins & Robin Robbins and a daughter Carolyn Bhatti of Indianapolis, along with eight grandchildren. In September 1981, Marvin married Marilyn (Zimpelman) who survives with stepsons, Barry (Shari) Zimpelman, Brent Zimpelman; and a stepdaughter, Rhonda (Barry) Koning; four stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren, all of Lafayette. Two brothers, Gerald of Indianapolis, Carl of North Carolina; a sister, Ailene (Gordon) Hiatt of Ft. Wayne, IN.; a foster daughter, Danae Saucier of Villa Platte, LA.; two nieces, two nephews, a stepniece and four stepnephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister Louise and a brother Harry; a sister-in-law and brother in law, Patricia and Larry Frye, and a brother-in-law, Bruce Flora. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, from 4 until 6 PM Sunday, with Beta Phi Sigma Service at 6 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be held at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home 10:00 AM Monday, Pastor David Doane officiating. A private family interment service will be held later at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
