Marva Kay Shaffer Hansen Obituary

Jan 01, 2016 - Dec 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Marva Kay Shaffer Hansen, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on Dec. 16. She was born on Jan. 29, 1936, to Ellis and Vanona Shaffer. She spent her youth in Millville, Utah, and graduated from South Cache High School. After high school she married her sweetheart, Lewis DeMar Hansen, on June 30, 1955, in the Logan LDS temple, and they purchased a dairy farm in Amalga, Utah. While living there they were blessed with four children, Ross, Gina, Lori, and Bonnie, and made a lifetime of fond memories. After raising their children they retired and moved to Logan, where they made many wonderful friends.Marva took great pride in her family and was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She created a home that was full of love, kindness and warmth. She cherished being able to care for her family. Her greatest joy in life was her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They would jump at any chance to go to grandma's house, but if she was cooking they would all come running. Marva had many talents but her family will you tell her greatest one was making each family member feel like they were the most special. She never missed a ball game, graduation or special event; she was everyone's greatest cheerleader. Whatever interested her children or grandchildren interested her. She was a kind, classy and gentle soul. Some of her favorite things were wintering in Arizona, spending time with her family at their Bear Lake cabin, making bets with the boys on the World Series (or whatever the sport in season may be), needlework, reading and enjoying her friends at the book club. Marva was a friend to all who knew her.She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the gospel was very dear to her. She had a very strong testimony and was a prime example of a woman of service. She loved participating in church activities and humanitarian projects. Her strong faith was a testimony builder to all. We know our Father in Heaven took her in his arms, telling her, "Job well done, my faithful servant." Well done, Mom and Grandma! We love you!Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Nona Shaffer, and son Ross DeMar Hansen. She is survived by her husband, Lewis DeMar Hansen of Logan; her daughters Gina Tingey of Millville; Lori (Rodney) Munk of Amalga; and Bonnie (Ramon) Quezada of Tempe, Arizona; and brother Gary (Kathy) Shaffer of Hyrum; as well as by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.A viewing will be from 10-11:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Logan 8th Ward Church, 325 Lauralin Drive, Logan, Utah. Burial will follow at the Smithfield Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home.A special thanks to Intermountain Hospice for helping us care for our mother at home and for the professional and kind service they provided. We would also like to thank the many neighbors and friends for the thoughtfulness they have extended to the family during this time.Condolences for the family can be left online at www.NymanFH.com.
