On this autumn day, November 22, 2016, Martha Jeane Siepel left this earth and arrived in her heavenly home with the Lord. She had fought a long and hard battle with rheumatoid arthritis, complicated with cancer. She was able to have peace in her home with her family's support. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Martha Jeane Antle Siepel was born on Sunday, June, 21, 1925 to Hunter and Lois Sherwood Antle in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Four years later, her family moved to Arizona. There, she started school, where she rode the school bus that her father drove and she spent many hours with her Sherwood grandparents, whom she adored. She was a 4-H member, a Rainbow girl and a very good student. Her favorite childhood memories were of her dolls and her summers in the mountains with her namesake grandma, Martha Ellen Sherwood. After the hard years of the depression, her family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in May 1942. Martha graduated from Carlsbad High School in1943. As a member of the First Christian Church, she was very active in the youth group and at one of the church meetings, she met her future husband, Charles Elbert Siepel, who was stationed at the Carlsbad Air Base. Their courtship blossomed and with her mother's blessing, they eloped to Monmouth, Illinois where they were married on November 17, 1944. After a short visit to the groom's home in Plymouth, Illinois, they returned to Carlsbad, New Mexico. A few short years later, they started a family. She had her home in Carlsbad for over 70 years. She was a homemaker and mother and also worked at JC Penney and for chiropractor, Dr. Brown, as an aide and receptionist. In her retirement, she loved painting, crafts, sewing, gardening and was a passionate cook. Everyone loved Grandma's cooking and had a favorite dish.Martha is survived by her sons: Norman D.
