Marsha Lee (Prior) Sloter was the first child born to William Lee Prior and Margret Vera (Davis) Prior, on October 15, 1935 at home in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was baptized in the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove and later confirmed in 1948. After her marriage, she took instruction in Lutheran doctrine, was confirmed and joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa.

Marsha "had an idyllic childhood", growing up in Ida Grove with her younger brother and sister. The family relocated to Lu Verne, Iowa in June of 1949 where she completed her high school education graduating valedictorian of her class in 1953. With scholarship in hand she enrolled in Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, graduating two years later and accepted a 4th grade teaching position in Forest City, Iowa. Living frugally, she saved enough money that year to take a six week all inclusive trip to Europe with a group of teachers. In March of 1956 she met "the love of her life," Jim Sloter, at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. They were married on February 17, 1957. To this union were born two sons: Daniel Scott in 1958 and Michael Jon in 1963.

The family lived and worked in Forest City, Iowa until 1967 when they purchased a business, Kossuth Oil Company, and moved to Algona, Iowa where Marsha kept books for the business. They joined Trinity Lutheran Church where Marsha taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and 4th grade Thursday School. She became a Lutheran Women's Missionary League member and served faithfully for many years.

Marsha and Jim loved to travel and over the years took their family to all of the "lower 48" United States.

In 1979, the family hosted an exchange student, Guido, from Belgium for a year. He became like a son to them. The family lost their son Dan in a tragic accident in 1980. Come Christmas, and missing Dan, they decided to travel to Belgium to see Guido and meet his family. That was their first of many trips to Europe over the next 40 years.

Marsha was a doting mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with them all. She was a talented hostess who enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home. Marsha loved tending her flower garden and was an avid reader. She had the gift of being content and happy 'in-the-moment', at work or at play.

Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Daniel, her sister, Sally Baker, and two sisters-in-law.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Jim Sloter, her son Mike, her brother Don Prior, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

"Only one life - 'twill soon be past, Only what's done for Christ will last."
