Marquette K Jones JD, MFA, 48, passed on June 30, 2021. She was born to Roderick W Jones and Shaquela M Jones in Youngstown, Ohio on December 21, 1972.

Marquette, an alumna of NYU's grad film program with a law degree from UC Berkeley, was a valued member of the California filmmaking community, teaching directing and screenwriting at Santa Clara University and running her podcast and website, Directing Magic where she showcased other women directors. Her award-winning films, Ghosted, Forgiving Chris Brown, Round on Both Sides, Streets 2 Suites, and Tunk have screened at film festivals around the world and been featured on Showtime, PBS, Amazon Prime and KweliTV et. al. She participated in the Athena Screenwriting Lab in Los Angeles with the feature film script, After the Jump, and was a semi-finalist for the Sundance Institute's Episodic lab.

As a producer, Marquette’s credits include Andrea Williams’ Spoonful of Sugar, Alrick Brown’s Adventures of Supern*gger, and Tamika Guishard’s Jackie. Her past filmmaking-related awards include: New York University’s Warner Bros. Production Award, Panasonic‘s “P2 for a Cause” Grand Prize Winner, Fotokem Film Processing Grant, Woods Hole Film Festival, Best Short Screenplay Winner for “Free’s Rain”, ProMotion Pictures / Heineken Branded Entertainment Shorts Competition Winner, Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival Best Short Narrative, and First Run Festival’s Producing Award.

Marquette was also a lifelong member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

 She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Shaquela Jones and maternal brother Marqus Koranteng, both of Youngstown, Ohio; her paternal brother Roderick Jones II and nephew Roderick Jones III both of Washington, D.C; her cherished sorority sisters, colleagues, students, and a host of extended family and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Roderick W. Jones and maternal grandparents Mattie P. Tate and Eugene Douglas, both of Youngstown, Ohio

Flowers are welcome; Contributions may be sent to her brother Marqus Koranteng. Contributions will be donated to the Athena Film Festival in Marquette's honor.
