Marolyn Kirsch Obituary

Jul 13, 1941 - Sep 10, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Kirsch, Marolyn "Sue" Marolyn "Sue" Kirsch, 76, died peacefully on Sept 10, 2017 at surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born on July 13, 1941 in Danvers, Illinois. The first child of Jesse and Mary (Albrecht) Miller. Sue had polio when she was 12, spending 6 months of her life in a body cast. But this did not define her! Sue went on to graduate at the top of her class at Danvers High School and then to earn a Bachelors Degree at University of Illinois. While there she met Raymond Fortin and they married after graduation. They had 2 children, Carol and Michael. Sadly, Ray died in 1967 leaving Sue with two children under the age of three. But this did not define her! With the life insurance money she received from Ray's passing, she returned to college, earning a Masters in Social Work degree from the University of Illinois. While living and working in Champaign, Illinois she met and married Jerry Kirsch. He adopted Sue's two children. The family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Sue first did volunteer work, becoming President of the League of Women Voters of the Grand Rapids area, and later, as a medical social worker at St. Mary's Hospital. Her marriage to Jerry ended in divorce in 1990. But this did not define her! Sue moved to Arizona to be closer to her parents. In Arizona, she had a long career as a medical social worker working for Scottsdale Memorial Hospital and for . She was a loving advocate for both of her parents as they declined, and ultimately passed, both receiving hospice care. But this did not define her! As time passed, her physical body declined and she needed to use a wheelchair for mobility. Even with this limitation, she still lived in her own apartment and drove a car, until the age of 70 when she fell and broke her back. But this did not define her! Sue was able to recover from her back injury enough to move into Sun Valley Lodge in Sun City. While there, she made many friends (with both residents and staff) and served on their resident advisory board. She lived next door to her church, Unity Spiritual Center, where she also made many friends and served on their Board of Directors. So what did define Sue? Her strength, her kindness, her compassion, her advocacy, her joy and her sense of humor. Sue is survived by her son, Michael Kirsch, his wife, Dr. Lisa Kirsch, her exceptional granddaughters, Hannah and Gabrielle, and her daughter, Carol Wotring, Carol's husband Glenn Wotring and her amazing grandson Jesse. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Miller, her sister-in-law, Anita Kay Miller, her sister-in-law, Beverly Miller, numerous beloved nephews and nieces and many aunts, uncles and cousins. And many, many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and her brother Michael Miller. Memorial services for Sue will be held at Unity Spiritual Center in Sun City on Thursday, September 14. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Sue's name to .
