It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mark Shannon Ritter, who departed this world on March 14, 2026, at the age of 57, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in the charming town of Lewes, Delaware, on June 20, 1968.

Mark was the beloved son of the late Charles and Frances Ritter, whose loving guidance shaped him into the man he became. He is now joyfully reunited with them in eternal peace.

Mark’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and passion. Mark spent his career crafting solutions with a meticulous mind and a generous heart as a General Mechanic.

Beyond his professional life, Mark was a man of diverse interests and deep passions. A dedicated NASCAR fan and a devoted follower of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mark’s enthusiasm for sports was infectious. Whether he was at the dirt tracks of Delmar, Delaware, or cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers in Dover, he found immense joy in the thrill of racing. Sundays during football season were sacred, as he gathered with family and friends to cheer on his beloved Steelers.

Mark’s personal life was filled with love and laughter. He leaves behind his devoted partner, Susan D. Simpson, whose unwavering support and love were the cornerstones of his happiness. He was the proud father of Anne M. Barton and her husband, David J. Barton, and his son, Morgan R. Ritter, and his spouse, Ashlee R. Leggett. Mark’s legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Johanna Barton, Carter Ritter, and Lorelai Barton, who brought endless joy to his life. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Donna, Darlene, Amy, and Carla, who shared in his life’s journey.

In his final act of selflessness, Mark chose to be an organ donor, a decision that continues to impact lives through the Gift of Life organization. His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for his enduring generosity and hopes that his story inspires others.

In accordance with his wishes, a private celebration of life will be held to honor Mark’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Gift of Life organization, reflecting Mark’s final wish to help others.
