Linda Janet Scott, 70, of Denton, Texas passed away at her home on January 10, 2016. Linda was born on November 30, 1945 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Lanham and Ivy (Lane) Atkinson.Linda graduated from Paschal High in Fort Worth and received a Bachelor in science from TCU. Later she received her teaching certification from the University of New Mexico. She loved her years teaching physical science and biology at Los Alamos Middle School.Marion Leon Scott, 75, of Denton, Texas passed away at his home on January 10, 2016. Marion was born on June 23, 1940 to Carl Reagan and Mae Kathleen (Tate) Scott in Wichita Falls, Texas.Marion received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy after serving on aircraft carriers as an airborne radar technician. Marion graduated from Arlington State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. Subsequently he earned Master of Science and a Doctorate of Philosophy degrees in Physics from Rice University.Linda was a beloved wife, mother, friend, teacher, professional colleague, coach and mentor. She served others selflessly, lifting up those less fortunate than herself and benefiting all who knew her. Linda demonstrated kindness and generosity toward others through many community organizations. She was gifted with the ability to craft fine quilts that she made with love for family, friends and service organizations. Linda was devoted to the Benjamin Lyon DAR Chapter and served as its Regent.Marion had the same qualities as Linda and demonstrated them as a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, professional colleague and mentor. He reflected these qualities through his volunteer service work as a Rotarian. Marion served as president of the Denton South Rotary Club.In addition to over ten years of middle school teaching, Linda's professional life included early research work on cancer research and other subjects at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas.Marion's career spanned three decades and included many projects of national and international importance. He worked for prominent technical organizations including Los Alamos National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He also performed with distinction as a contractor and consultant. Marion's body of work included innovations in subatomic particle physics and advanced inertial navigation systems. In the latter part of his career, Marion became a highly sought-after expert in his field, including specialized optical thin film coatings for high energy lasers and other applications.Linda and Marion loved their church and community, sharing a wonderful life together and caring deeply for one another. They had many interests in common, combining their energy and enthusiasm for astronomy, bridge, civic volunteering and more. Their family always came first and their granddaughter Vivienne was the light of their life. They showed love and compassion toward all.They are survived by son Michael Scott and wife Olivia and their child Vivienne Mae and son Stephen Scott. She is also survived by sister Marilyn and husband Larry Ivy, and sisters-in-law Mary Atkinson and Mabel Atkinson, and eight nieces and nephews and their families.Linda is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Olin and Lanham.Marion is preceded in death by brother, Robert Scott.The family will receive friends Jan. 18, 2016 at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Denton, Texas on Jan. 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by the Denton South Rotary Club and the Benjamin Lyon Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Chapter.
