A True Family Man
Mario, 74, passed away Wednesday morning after a brief illness. He and his wife, the late Maria Castaldi, are most certainly missed by many.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Salvatore and Theresa Umile Catalano. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, now part of St. Paul of the Cross Parish. He was one of the original members and a very active lifelong member of the 20th Ward Social and Athletic Club. He had been employed by Capitol Records, where he meet his wife, later retiring from Topps Chewing Gum.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was always there for his family and friends, always willing to help any way he could. He was a happy-go-lucky person who could usually be heard whistling a tune.
Mario leaves behind a son, Joseph Catalano and wife, Lynn, Scranton; a daughter, Barbara Zaretski and husband, Tony, Scranton; three grandchildren, Amy McCracken and husband, Bryan, Scranton; Brian Zaretski, Scranton; and Danielle Catalano, Taylor; two great-granddaughters, Mia Ashley McCracken and Emerson Rose Catalano; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Zaretski; a sister, Antoinette Luciani; and four brothers Hugo, Nicholas, Louis and Walter Catalano.
Family and friends may call on the family Saturday February 29th from 1pm-5pm at the the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday March 1st at the convenience of the family.
