Marianne Stoddard Obituary

Jul 15, 1958 - Jan 08, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Marianne Putnam StoddardMarianne Putnam Stoddard, 58, returned to her heavenly home on December 8, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on July 15,1958 to Howard Hoggan Putnam and Martine Lou Harris Putnam and spent much of her life with her family in St. George and Pine Valley, Utah. Marianne went to college at Dixie State and Brigham Young University where she majored in nursing.Shortly after, Marianne moved to Dallas, Texas. Nursing became her career and labor of love that began in pediatrics, most recently at Medical City Children's, and culminated in pediatric oncology at Texas Oncology. She compassionately served the patients and staff whose lives were changed by cancer, until it changed her own.Marianne loved life and she loved to learn. Mom was a voracious reader, instilling in her children a love of books. Her appetite for reading made her a masterful Scrabble player- she only lost to be a good sport. She loved music - a pianist and singer like her parents - and was always a willing accompanist. Marianne was a quilter, gifting each blanket with careful stitches full of love. She read, camped, colored, listened, and loved her children. She enjoyed nature, especially mountains, the vibrant color of the fall leaves, and the rare cool temperatures in Texas. All who knew Marianne felt of her Christ-like love. Mom was tireless and completely selfless in service throughout her life. She was active in her faith and served many in the congregations she attended through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The gospel was her guiding light; her testimony and faith were evident in her example. Mom had a strong testimony of the plan of salvation. She believed the purpose of mortality is to realize our fullest potential through growth and experience, and held firmly to the knowledge that families will be together forever. Mom said that being a mother was the greatest education in which she ever engaged. It was both challenging and rewarding, and her most cherished endeavor. She served all she met and carried those who cared for her, even in her final days.Marianne was so many things to so many of us. She was the greatest nana, friend, aunt, co-worker, mentor, nurse, sister, and mom. She taught us with her example, blessed us with her service, and graced us with her love.Marianne is survived by her grateful children: John & April Stoddard, Shelley & Will Gonzales, Matt & Olivia Ybarra-Stoddard, Annie & Brad Reid, Lisa & Tim Jordan, and David Stoddard; Her loving siblings: Rebecka & Ric Page, Jon & Maury Putnam, Christine & Gary Nelson, Jeff & Chris Putnam, Joel & Fran Putnam, Lisa & Mike Isom, Mel & Cami Putnam, and Rachel Putnam; her rambunctious grandchildren; and her adoring father Howard Hoggan Putnam. She is joyfully reunited with her Savior, former patients, niece and nephews, friends, her mother, Martine Lou Harris Putnam, and her brother, Matthew Harris Putnam.Visitation and funeral services held in Dallas, Texas. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery at 2:30 PM on Monday, December 12, 2016. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 435-673-2454.
