Margaret M.H. Chang Pai, of Santa Rosa, CA, formerly of Liaoyang, Liaoning, China, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2015. She was 100 years old. Born on November 16 in the third year of the Republic of China (1914), she studied at Nankai High School in Tianjin and Yenching University in Beiping. After serving as an elementary school principal outside the wartime capital of Chongqing during WWII, she evacuated her family from Shanghai to Taiwan with the fall of the Nationalist Government in October 1949. In Taiwan, she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, becoming a president of the church’s national Relief Society organization. Additionally, she managed National Tsing Hua University’s Yueh-han Lecture Hall in Taipei, greeting leaders such as President Chiang Ching-kuo. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter Kuang Li, Margaret is survived by her five children (Pearl (James), Linda (Roger), Dora (Li Hung), Paul (Mui Lee), and William (Marie)), eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She will be missed by her family and many friends and will live on in their memories.
