Margaret P. RuschmeyerHELOTES, FORMERLY OF ABILENE, TXMargaret Elaine Pierce Ruschmeyer (Peg), was born on May 2, 1919, on a farm outside Nashua, Iowa. She left us to be with Granddad Jack on September 2, 2017, at 98 years young! Following high school graduation she completed extension courses in Bookkeeping and Accounting from Chicago University and received a Music Scholarship to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where she met and subsequently married Jack Robert Ruschmeyer on September 15, 1940. They took up residency in Waterloo, Iowa where he was employed at Rath Packing Co., she joined Automatic Supply Co. and they joined First Presbyterian Church. Peg became very active in every aspect possible of Church life, to include singing in the Choir. It was around that time that she also began her membership in P.E.O., served on the Board of the YWCA, LMI Musical Organization, Waterloo Civic Chorus, Waterloo Symphony, Presbyterian Hospital Aux., Woman's Club, League of Women Voters, and Girl Scouts. In 1963, the family moved to El Paso, Texas, where Peg continued her involvement in the same types of organizations and activities, to include transferring to a new P.E.O. They transferred Church membership to First Presbyterian Church of El Paso where Peg also began a hands-on tutoring program and landing library in South El Paso for Mexican border children. She was on the Board of the Church who implemented and directed a summer program "Hands Across the Border" where High School students from across the U.S. came to assist with various programs in conjunction with the local Boys and Girls Clubs.Peg and Jack moved to Abilene in the Spring of 1968 where he began working for Gooch Packing Co. and Peg continued being very active in the work of Church Women United, represented Palo Duro Union Presbytery in the Texas Council of Churches, also a member of the Synod of the Sun Planning and Consultation Task Group. Again, she transferred her P.E.O. membership to Abilene. Jack passed away on March 15, 2009. On March 4, 2015, Peg fell in her home, breaking her hip, resulting in her subsequent move to Honey's House of Helotes.Peg is survived by her daughter, Victoria Ruschmeyer Puffer (Robert); grandchildren, Margaret Puffer Tinoco (Jeremy), Elizabeth Puffer Griffin, and John Robert Puffer (Alexandria); great-grandchildren, Savanna and Robert Grounds, and Kaitlynn Tinoco; Victoria, Allison and Jennifer Reyes; Alyssa Ramirez (David) and Colby Robert Puffer.Any memorials may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Abilene Food Bank, Medical Care Mission, Meals on Wheels or Christ House.
