Nov 18, 1974 - Nov 01, 2021

This obituary is administered by:

In Honor of a Great Man

"Mani" Manuel (Chavo) Calamanco, 46, of Surprise, Arizona, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 01, 2021. He was involved in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, October 28, 2021, that left him fighting for the next few days in the ICU at Abrazos West in Goodyear, AZ. He never regained consciouness the entire time he was there. He was surrounded in love by his family.

Mani was born on November 18, 1974 in Ciudad, Juarez, Mexico to Manuel and Beatriz (Valdez) Calamanco. He moved to S. Sioux City, NE, where he grew up, when he was in elementary school. He was fluent in both English and Spanish and grew up to be an excellent communicator and speaker.

After graduating high school, he entered the Army, where he was in the Reserves. He served with a Marine unit and was very proud of his military background. He became a sharpshooter and it brought him great pride to talk of the days when he was in the service.

Mani married Brooke (Robinson) Dial when he was in his early twenties and they had three children together: Danielle, Taylor, and MJ. Though the marriage did not last, his love for his children never ended. He was always so very proud of them and who they were becoming. He never doubted their abilities or their potential to reach great heights. They were his pride and joy. His care for Brooke also never diminished and he worked with her to establish a friendship that carried through to holidays together as one big family, joint custody decisions, and many long conversations about the kids' futures.

Mani married Aubrie (Pojar) Schroeder on May 8, 2008. With Aubrie came Mani's bonus son, Michael. Mani loved Michael as if he was his own. Especially in the later years, they developed a deep respect for one another and it's a bond that will last through eternity.

Mani and Aubrie went through many trials during their marriage, but one thing was always evident: their love for one another. No matter what happened, they stood by each other and they dreamed of a life in retirement where they could continue to just spend life with one another. Whether it was a night out on the town to go dance, or just a quick dinner, they enjoyed each moment they spent with one another. Mani would often say how much fun he was having just hanging out. They were soulmates. He helped Aubrie learn to live and enjoy life.

Mani was very proud of his graduation from Grand Canyon University (GCU) with first his Bachelor's in Business and then his Master's in Industrial Psychology degrees and his status as Suma Cum Laude. He worked very hard to earn the status and retain the respect of those around him.

He worked for Tyson Foods for over 26 years and he loved what he did. His most recent job was working with the EIM team and he treasured the time he worked with and got to know his co-workers. He enjoyed their company and he considered many of them to be good friends. He talked about them on many occasions and planned to do some traveling and sporting events with them in the near future.

He was a member of the American Legion where he played pool and enjoyed the comradere of the gentlemen. He always felt honored to be counted among their ranks.

Mani loved being with family and friends, riding motorcycles, talking cars, playing pool and volleyball, and traveling. His most favorite pasttimes involved traveling with family and friends to see new sights and just spend time with them. His most recent trips were to see Michael in CA and then to see Danielle, her husband, John, and their three daughters. He loved every minute of the time he got to spend with them.

His favorite teams to cheer on were the Nebraska Huskers, New England Patriots, and the Boston Red Sox. His dream was to one day be able to go to Boston to see the Patriots and Red Sox play a game.

Mani's passion for Jesus came through in his conversations with others. He enjoyed talking about how God took care of him through some of the darkest days of his life and how he could see the hand of God through everyday moments in life. He enjoyed serving in Skill School at Sunnybrook Community Church in Sioux City, IA; leading DivorceCare at Sunnybrook and Morningside Assembly of God (also Sioux City); and helping out with the tech at Sunnybrook, Morningside Assembly, and Aspire Church in Surprise, AZ.

Mani is survived by his wife Aubrie, sons Michael Schroeder (Lancaster, CA) and MJ (Elara) Calamanco (Surprise, AZ); daughters Danielle (John) Coughlin (Decorah, IA) and Taylor Calamanco (Scottsdale, AZ); three granddaughters Kenna, Randi, and Nevaeh; his parents Manuel and Beatriz Calamanco (S. Sioux City, NE); his siblings Tony (Amber) Calamanco (Sgt. Bluff, IA), Silvia (Brandon) Dobernecker (Alton, IA), Candice McDowell (Omaha, NE), Angela (Jaime) Perez (Ft. Dodge, IA), Sadie Calamanco (S. Sioux City, NE), and Veronica Calamanco (Dallas, TX); 15 nieces and nephews; one great nephew and one great niece; many aunts and uncles; and an untold amount of friends that he made along his journey here on earth.
