Mae J. (Koch) Smercina-ButlerHURON: Mae J. (Koch) Smercina-Butler, 82, residing in Huron, passed away early Monday morning, May 29, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.Mae was born on May 26, 1935 in Cleveland, OH to the late Matthew and Marie (Magaldi) Koch. Mae retired as an insurance agent after 30 years of service in the Huron, Berlin Heights, Toledo and Columbus areas. She was a long term member of Christ Episcopal Church in Huron. Mae was a past board member at the Huron Library and volunteered in the gift shop at Firelands Regional Medical Center. She was an avid dog lover and was a creative interior decorator. Mae enjoyed spending time with her family and keeping in contact with her friends.Mae is survived by her four sons, Brad Smercina of Huron, David (Mary) Smercina of Chicago, IL, Jim (Karol) Smercina of Elmore and Dan (Lori) Smercina of Lebanon, OH; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; cousins, Jon and Janeen and other relatives.In addition to her parents, Mae is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Butler and daughter-in-law, Karen Smercina in 2016.Friends may call on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 Ohio St., Huron. Pastor Mike Floyd will officiate.
