On December 15, 2024, the world lost a beloved resident of Grundy, Virginia. Mae Akers, born on May 1, 1938, lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of many.

Mae had a passion for spending time surrounded by her family, whether it was enjoying a leisurely picnic in the park or cozying up at home for a movie night. Her joyful spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In her free time, Mae could often be found tending to her garden or trying out new recipes in the kitchen. She had a knack for making even the simplest moments feel special and unforgettable.

Mae was a cherished member of her community and considered a second mother by many. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.

Rest in peace, Mae. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit will forever shine bright in the lives of those you touched.

The family has opted to honor Mae's wishes to be cremated and to hold a celebration of life for her instead of a graveside service. The gathering will be held at the New Hope Christian Church in Grundy, Virginia.
