Madge Bergstrom Obituary

Dec 01, 2016 - Jan 07, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Madge BergstromDecember 13, 1925 - January 7, 2016Madge Marie Hogan Bergstrom of Logan, Utah, was born on Dec. 13, 1925, in Lewiston, Utah. She passed away on January 7, 2016. She is survived by her husband, Airus Evan Bergstrom, and four children: John Evan (Judy), Chandler, AZ; Kenneth Neil (Carla), Richmond, UT; Alan Jeffrey (Nancy), So. Jordan, UT; and Jill Ramboz (Mark), Henryville, IN. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Madge was the second daughter of Clayton & Arvella Swinyard Hogan. She lived in Lewiston during her growing-up years, participating in school activities in Lewiston Elementary, Jr. High and North Cache High School in Richmond. She played percussion in the North Cache band. As a young person, she was surrounded with many extended family members who lived throughout northern Cache County and southern Idaho. She remained close to several girlfriends from Lewiston throughout her life. Madge attended Henager Business School in Salt Lake and then worked in Salt Lake until after the war. She returned to Logan to attend Utah State Agricultural College and became a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Here she met her handsome veteran Army-Air Force pilot who was raised in Brigham City, and Box Elder County, Utah. After a happy courtship, they were married in the Logan Temple on April 12, 1946. Airus graduated from USU in 1948 and they moved briefly to Tulare, California. The Korean War began and Airus was recalled to active duty. They moved their family many times during the next 22 years as the U.S. Air Force became their life. They lived in Texas, California, England, Illinois, and then Virginia. Airus retired at Vandenberg AFB in California in 1972 after which they returned to Logan to live. Madge has always loved Cache Valley. She has busied herself with activities such as ladies golf at Logan Golf and Country Club, hospital volunteer while living in California, collector of family histories and genealogy, giving service in Relief Society, and her favorite: being a grandmother. Madge is remembered, by her children, as always having a listening ear, ever willing to stick up for and defend each child, and always ready to give hugs anytime. The family is especially grateful to Colette Hatch and Lori Smith for the kind and caring attention given to Madge during her later years. Both gave time and unfailing watch-care to help Madge have many good days in her own home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Lundstrom Park 3rd Ward, 1260 N 1600 E, Logan, Utah, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the funeral. Interment at Logan City Cemetery is under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary of Logan. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
