Lund, LoVilla "Lovie" Rachael Olson 90, passed away at The Beatitudes Memory Care Center in Phoenix, AZ on Thursday, December 15, 2016. Lovie was born on October 23, 1926 in Almelund, MN to Oscar Edward and Sallie Elemina (Sedlund) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund, MN and attended Palmdale and Furuby Elementary Schools, the last years of the one-room rural school house. She and her sister Carole Ruthie spent their growing up years on farms in Almelund and Palmdale, Minnesota. She graduated from Chicago Lakes High School in 1944. After graduation she worked as a draftsman at Westlund Monument Co. in Center City, MN. She also worked as a clerk at the Ostrom Fairway grocery store in Lindstrom, MN. She traveled by train to the state of Washington where she worked for a period of time at the State Capitol in Olympia. Later, she traveled to Los Angeles, CA where she applied for Federal Civil Service office work. She worked at the Veterans Hospital in Santa Monica, CA for two years. She then returned to Minnesota and worked at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis for five years, and later worked for the U.S. Public Health Service in Phoenix, AZ. Her nickname "Lovie" began when she was 20 years of age by a close girlfriend who felt "LoVilla" was difficult for people to pronounce or spell correctly and it stuck ever since! On March 16, 1958 she was united in marriage to Allen "Al" Raymond Lund. They were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ by Pastor Lyle Burns (formerly of Center City, MN). Their only daughter, Melonee RaShel, was born on August 27, 1960. The family became members of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix, and Lovie was active in Kathryn Circle, Christian Action, and volunteered in the office. She was a Life Member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and a Life Member of the . She sewed hundreds of lap robes and baked hundreds of cookies for the Veterans Hospital over the years. Her husband was self-employed as a Caterpillar Backhoe Operator. Lovie did the bookkeeping for Al's business until 1985 when he was forced to retire after a severe heart attack. He passed away on December 8, 2002. Three years after his death, she moved to the retirement campus of The Beatitudes. Survivors include her daughter, Melonee Lund of Oak Ridge, TN; niece, Cindy (Tom) Huebner of Green River, WY; nephews, Corby Benson of Minneapolis, MN and Chris (Juanita) Benson of Eagan, MN; great-nieces, Taryn (Scott) Rosenthal of San Jose, CA and Arianna Benson of Eagan, MN; great-nephews, Trenton (Kayla) McDowell of Carlsbad, CA and Connor Benson of Eagan, MN. Lovie will be cremated and then inurned at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. 350 Los Ranchitos Rd. P.O.
