Louise Annell Mitchell, born on July 23, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, peacefully transitioned on March 3, 2026.
At just two weeks old, Louise returned to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where she was raised and spent most of her life. The island was her foundation, shaping her strength, resilience, and deep love for family. She was the seventh of nine children, growing up surrounded by a large and loving family. At the age of 22, she moved to Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands, where she continued to build her life and legacy.
Louise was a devoted mother, grandmother, and woman of quiet strength and faith. She was known for her nurturing spirit, her ability to care for others, and her unwavering love for her family. She faced life’s challenges with grace and determination, always leaning on her faith and encouraging those around her to do the same.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor Charleswell-Mitchell and EB Coleman, and five siblings.
Louise leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Henry Mitchell (special nephew), Patrice Bowry, and Kai Bowry. She is also survived by her siblings: Russell Sheridan, Juliet Cox, and Jacqueline Walker.
She also leaves behind her loving companion, Marvin Wilford, whose presence and support were a meaningful part of her life.
She was a proud grandmother to Kaleb Bowry, Mahlik Bowry, Azariah Bowry, Kaira Bowry, Tamai Bowry, Erika Pomare, Kaosisochukwu Nwankwo, Munachimso Nwankwo, Chinedu Nwankwo, and Ekenedilichukwu Nwankwo; and a loving great-grandmother to Jarvis Bagot, Michael Bagot, and Sharonna Bowry-Bagot.
She is also survived by her aunt and uncle, Earl Vanterpool and Stephanie Vanterpool; her nieces and nephews: Shamoi Mitchell, James Mitchell, Pamela Sheridan, Gregory Hunt, Roger Cox, Shimshone Brownlee, Ben Brownlee, Yegal Brownlee, Yahmelek Brownlee, Adiel Brownlee, Oshriyah Brownlee, Oshriel Brownlee, and Ahzaryah Brownlee; as well as 28 great-nieces and nephews, including Key’ion, Keymari, Abigail, Beyonce, Tiffany, Reut, Tihilah, Yahfiyah, Zahavah, Bekaryah, Tal-or, Anael, Liam, Iyanah, Aveyah, Omariee, Raynah, and Ryan, along with many other extended family members and loved ones.
Louise also shared a special and cherished bond with her best friend, Karen “Linda” Lamotta, whose friendship, love, and support meant so much throughout her life.
Special mention is given to her beloved cousins: Desiree Sewer-Vanterpool, Evelyn Vanterpool, Rael Vanterpool, Rennia Vanterpool, Esme Callwood-Frazier, Delores Vanterpool, Carin Charleswell-Thomas, and the entire Charleswell family.
The family would also like to acknowledge and extend love to the entire Jost Van Dyke (JVD) family and community, whose support and presence meant so much to Louise throughout her life.
Louise Annell Mitchell will be remembered for her love, her strength, and the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her family and all the lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
