Louis William HoltmanSan Angelo World War II Veteran Louis William Holtman passed away on Nov. 6, 2016, in his sleep surrounded by his family at his home in Peters Creek, Alaska. Louis was born on Sept. 29, 1925, in Rowena, Texas, 91 years prior to his passing. His life was lived to the fullest. At an early age hunting and fishing became his passion that would endure through the decades. Joining the Navy in 1944 he served as a gunners mate on landing crafts seeing duty at Okinawa, Saipan, Hiroshima and other locations during the Pacific Campaign.After the war returning to Texas, Louis took to the air as a pilot, enjoyed stock car racing, golf, and went back to work for the San Angelo Times Newspaper, where years before he began work as a paperboy. In 1951 Louis was reeled in by Estelle his future wife; married in 1952, forming a union that lasted 64 wonderful years.Louis moved his family to Chugiak, Alaska in 1969. Until 1982 he worked for the Anchorage Times Newspaper. Beginning in 1983 he worked for the Chugiak Senior Center, retiring in 2003.Next to fishing and hunting, his other love was Black Jack being a very talented player. He attended numerous Black Jack Tournaments in Las Vegas, and is one of a very few that could indeed truthfully claim he always came back home with a fuller wallet than he'd departed with!Louis raised his family in Peters Creek and is survived by his wife Estelle Holtman; daughters Lounette (Jim) Crum, Star (Rob) Hulse, Kim; and son Kirby (Maria). He enjoyed hanging out with his seven grandchildren Jaime (Eric) Gustavson, Robin (Chris) Ori, Trisha (Dylan Kingrea), and Katie Hulse, Cierra, Remington and Blake Holtman; His eight great-grandchildren Tyler Huffer, Lily, Wren Hulse, Fred and Philo Gustavson, Lydia, Grace and MinYu Ori kept him entertained.Services will be held at The Crossing, at 22208 North Birchwood Loop Road on Nov. 12, 2016 at 1 p.m.
