DeWinter, Louis "Lou"Louis "Lou" DeWinter, 89, Green Bay, beloved husband, loving father and grandfather, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born on June 5, 1927 to the late Emma and Cornelius DeWinter.Lou was a graduate of the U.S. Maritime Academy at Sheepshead Bay, NY and served aboard the U.S.S. Cristobal, a troop transport during WWII. On August 6, 1949, he married the love of his life, Ila Joy Eyers. They were married for 62 years when she preceded him in death on August 22, 2011. Lou was employed by the Western Union Telegraph Co. for 37 years, managing several offices in Wisconsin, including the office in Green Bay. While with Western Union, he was the direct liaison between the Green Bay Packers and the press and worked in the Green Bay Packers press box for almost 30 years. Finding retirement wasn't for him, he went back to work, becoming employed by the Howard-Suamico School District as Audio-Visual Director. On June 8, 2001, after 16 years in the school system, he again retired. After 53 years (and he loved every day of it) he felt it was time to retire for good. Lou was proud of the fact that in 53 years of work, he never missed a day.He was a Lion's Club member for 24 years and held several key positions including President. Lou was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing the many lakes and rivers in Wisconsin and Michigan. Lou and Ila enjoyed spending time up north. He also loved spending time with his three sons, Dean, Ron and Gary and daughter, Pamela and their families.Lou is survived by his four children and their spouses: Pamela and David Nemetz, Denmark; Dean and Diane DeWinter, Green Bay; Ron and Dawn DeWinter, New Franken; Gary and Kim DeWinter, Green Bay; seven grandchildren: Adam, Alex, Greg and David Nemetz; Addison DeWinter; Meranda and Merissa DeWinter; two step-grandchildren, Matthew (Kristin) Kamke and Michael "Pooch" Kamke; a sister, Olivia "Sis" (Cecil) Beeson, Tulsa, OK; and a sister-in-law, Eloise "Pinky" Larsen, Wisconsin Rapids.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 3. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Deacon Michael Dabeck officiating. Entombment will be in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum where his wife, Ila is entombed.
