Gerould, Lesley C.Lesley C. Gerould formerly of 275 Rowayton Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016. She was born on July 18, 1929 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and was the daughter of Richard D. & Elinor Chapman.Lesley was a remarkable woman who led a very full life. She joined Northeast Utilities as a special assistant in the System Communications Department, was advanced to director of Community Relations, was appointed district manager in 1981, and elected regional vice president in May of 1984. In February of 1983, "Connecticut Woman" magazine named Lesley Gerould as the Woman of the Month. The reporter described her as "a quick study, energetic, bright, aggressive, perfectionist, hard-working, tough, hardnosed, demanding, unrelentingā€¦ She is quick to criticize, yet even quicker to praiseā€¦The respect she has for those working with her is returned in many ways."In an interview for the magazine, Lesley stated "Being a woman in this position certainly puts one on the firing line, because I have to believe that any failures of mine will reflect poorly on women who follow me." There is a lot for women to follow, since she was the first woman director in Northeast Utilities, the first woman district manager, the first woman vice president and was instrumental in founding NU's Women's Support Group for professional development and upward mobility. She graduated with a degree in Physics from Smith College, found a job as a mathematician at Harvard University, became an assistant to the laboratory administrator in the Department of Engineering Sciences and Applied Physics. She then began to involve herself in Legislative activities. She was the state lobbyist for the League of Women Voters in Massachusetts, later the legislative liaison for the Massachusetts Department of Education and ultimately director of the Legislative Action Division for the League of Women Voters of the United States.Since joining Northeast Utilities in 1977, Lesley became very active in the Norwalk Community. Lesley was president of the Greater Norwalk Community Council, a Board member of the George Washington Carver Foundation, the Southwestern Area Commerce and Industry Association of Connecticut, and United Way. She was a member of the Mayor's Council on the Status of Women in Norwalk, and a past Board Member of the Norwalk-Wilton Red Cross and Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce. She was also very active with the Norwalk Senior Center. She is survived by her two nieces, Lisa Bibring and Margot Hammer both of Massachusetts. Lesley will be missed by all that knew her through business and community life. Funeral services will be private.
