Leonna was born on May 24, 1932, to John and Thelma Johnson in Cleveland Ohio. After Leonna graduated from high school, she went on to get her cosmetology license and began doing hair and makeup in the neighborhood she grew up in. Known for her vibrant personality and big smile she would always bring joy to the people she was around

In 1955, Leonna met Roy Kemp. Leonna and Roy went on to have 7 children, Elaine, Rocco Wesley, Linda May, Leon, and Josephine.

Leonna was predeceased by Her parents John and Thelma, her brother John Jr, and sons Leon and Wesley She is survived by her children Rocco, Elaine, Linda, May, and Josephine. Grandchildren Anthony, Dmarco, Chonte, Jaida. As well as a host of great-grandchildren and cousins
