October 23, 2016Reverend Monsignor Leo Michael Dolan went to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 23rd, 2016. Monsignor was born on April 6, 1937, in Derry, North Ireland. His life included fifty-six years as a priest in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.Ordained at St. Patrick's Church in Carlow, Ireland, June 11, 1960, Monsignor was one of several newly ordained priests recruited by San Antonio bishops to staff local parishes. He first served at St Paul's parish, for three years. He then served at St. Michael's parish which was displaced by the development of Hemisfair Plaza in 1968.For three years, Monsignor worked outside of San Antonio at St. Andrew's parish and the area surrounding Pleasanton, Texas. Returning to the San Antonio area, he served at St. Margaret Mary and St. Catherine's parishes for ten years.While working at Holy Name parish for four years, Monsignor also worked as the temporary Chaplain for children and adults at Santa Rosa Hospital. Assigned to St. Benedict's parish, he worked there for seven years.From 1987 until 2013, twenty-six years, Monsignor Dolan served as pastor for St. Helena's parish. There he celebrated his fifty years as a priest. Monsignor Dolan was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher and earned the rank of Knight Commander with Cross (KCHS). He was also a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council #7965, St. Helena's Parish.Even after retiring to live at Casa de Padres, Monsignor continued serving the Archdiocese by celebrating masses and hearing confessions as needed in the local parishes.Monsignor Dolan is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Mary Dolan, and nieces and nephews in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Beatrice Dolan and his brother Father Edward Dolan, a Columbian missionary who had served in Korea.FUNERAL SERVICESFuneral Services will be held at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 14714 Edgemont, with a viewing to begin Thursday, October 27th, at 4:00pm and the rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Friday, October 28th, at 9:30am, with Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS, presiding.
