This obituary is administered by:

Mrs. Hopkins passed away Monday, October 15, 2018. Born August 1, 1938, Leila was the daughter of the late John Adger Manning and Margaret Sams Elliott. She was the granddaughter of the late William Elliott and Leila Gibbes Sams and the late Governor Richard I. Manning and Lelia Bernard Meredith. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Edward Darrell Hopkins, III and sister, Margaret Manning Andrews (Marnie). Leila and Marnie spent their younger years riding horses on their father's farm. They rode on hunts there and in Columbia and Camden. A treasured family picture shows Leila receiving a ribbon and standing with her favorite horse, White Christmas. Leila was a graduate of Columbia High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, member of the Junior League, past president of The Assembly Ball as was her mother and grandmother, and past chairman of the Columbia Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina as was her mother. Born and raised in Columbia, Leila had many childhood friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Leila was very devoted to her large Manning and Elliott families and treasured each of them. She also loved to travel with her husband Bud. They traveled together throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Favorite destinations were remote islands in Alaska where they would fish for salmon and return with an abundance of filets to be shared with family and friends. She is survived by her husband Dr. Edward Darrell "Bud" Hopkins, Jr;, daughters Anne Hopkins Kissam (Keller), Elizabeth Hopkins Walker (Andy), Leila Hopkins Boyd (Reese); and seven loving grandchildren who knew her as "Dede," William Keller Kissam, Jr., Anne Elliott Kissam, Virginia "Ginny" Hopkins Walker, Andrew Graham Walker, Jr., Margaret Sams Walker, Leila Manning Boyd, and Reese Rodman Boyd, IV. The family would like to thank Debbie Cook for her loving care and devotion over the past eighteen months. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or Camp Kemo Programs, 7 Richland Medical Park, Suite 7215, Columbia, SC 29203. In Christine Rossetti's famous poem "Let Me Go", she writes, "Miss me but let me go". We will do that with great sadness. Leila was loved by her family and will be missed.
