Lee Shafer, a longtime Klamath Falls resident and Oregon native, passed away on Oct. 27, 2016. He was born on Aug. 20, 1927, in Medford, Ore., graduated from Phoenix High School in 1945 and briefly attended the University of Oregon before serving in the Army. He later traveled to Alaska to follow his future wife, Juanita McDonald, and her family. They married in Anchorage on June 30, 1949. He attended San Jose Bible College from 1949 to 1953 and graduated with a Bible and theology degree. Lee ministered over 63 years, beginning at his home congregation, Phoenix Christian Church (1953-1955). He was called to be the first minister of Shasta Way Christian Church in Klamath Falls (1955-1988). His last full-time ministry was at Newberg Christian Church (1988-1994) and continued part time for 15 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Juanita (McDonald) Shafer, and their four children, Douglas, Leta (Reti), Randy and Mark and their families, including 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Birdie (Price) Shafer; his brothers, Everett, Price and James Shafer; and sister, Dorothy Bernard. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, in Newberg Christian Church, 2315 N. Villa Road in Newberg, Ore.
