Lawrence Fulgenzi Obituary

Jun 06, 1923 - Jan 07, 2015

This obituary is administered by:
Lawrence (Larry) Fulgenzi, a man who touched the hearts of all who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2015 at the home of his daughter, Kathi Zimmerman. Larry was born on June 6, 1923 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Dolores and Eugene Fulgenzi. After high school he enlisted in the navy and served aboard the USS Mississippi during World War II. While on leave he married the love of his life, Connie Lucero, with whom he was blissfully married for 70 years. After the war, he joined Connie in Los Alamos where they raised their three daughters. Larry was a supervisor and technician for the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories for 40 years. Respected and admired by his co-workers he was given the nickname "Mr. S-Site". A man who treasured his faith, Larry was a devoted Catholic and a lifetime member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Larry enjoyed many interests, some of which were running, volleyball and golf. His love of sports made him an avid Lobo supporter, holding season tickets for over 40 years. His commitment to his family and community actively involved him in Special Olympics, the Elks, Little Theater, coaching Lassie League Softball and being a volunteer at the Los Alamos Historical Museum (where he was able to share his expertise about World War II and the Los Alamos Labs). He was a man who touched the lives of so many and will always continue to be an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. A devoted husband and father, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Connie, his beloved daughter Norma Jean, and 7 siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Geri Carlberg and Kathi Zimmerman, son-in-law, Ray Zimmerman, 5 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren and his only surviving sibling Josie Chavez. Funeral Services will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, New Mexico on Friday May 15, 2015, with the Rosary at 9:00 a.m. followed by the services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Guaje Pines Cemetery. The Special Olympics, which was near and dear to Larry's heart, is suggested for those who wish to make a donation in his memory.
