Lavinia Abney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026 in New York City, New York at the age of 77. She was born on May 6, 1938 to Keith Abney and Arabella Grubbs.

Lavinia married the love of her life, William Crossland, in 1967 and together they raised five children: Gina Abney, Lawania Crossland, Mercedes Crossland, Raquel Pugh, and Xzaveia Pressley. She adored her eighteen grandchildren and took great joy in spending time with them.

Lavinia attended Boys and Girls High School in New York and later went on to work at the United States Postal Service where she dedicated over four decades of her life before retiring in 1991. She was known for her dedication to her community and was actively involved in the Mt Zion Baptist Church organization.

In her spare time, Lavinia loved singing and could often be found belting out tunes in the kitchen while preparing meals for her family. Her infectious laughter and warm smile will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lavinia Abney will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. May she rest in peace.
