Christensen, age 84, of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.Funeral services for LaVina will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday May 5, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. Father John Swing will officiate the service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday morning at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa, Wisconsin is assisting the family with arrangements. LaVina was born on November 27, 1932 in Nekoosa, Wisconsin to the late Anton and Regina (Szulczewski) Hoffman. She married James H. Christensen on October 24, 1953 in Waukon, Iowa. LaVina was a member of the Christian Mothers group, enjoyed reading and going to her morning coffee clutch at McDonald's with her friends. LaVina and Jim enjoyed trips all over the country visiting and gambling at various casinos along their travels. Most of all, LaVina enjoyed time spent with her family and loved to attend any event her grandchildren were participating in. LaVina is survived by her husband of 63 years James; five children Kim (Mike) Boardman, Kris Zellmer, Mitch Christensen, Todd Christensen and Kelly Schwandt; 6 grandchildren Jim (Kelsey) Christensen, Josh (Renee) Christensen, Cole Boardman, Chase (Angie) Boardman, Brady Schwandt and Chaz Schwandt; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Edwin (Norma) Hoffman.She is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Jim Zellmer; grandchild Tai Boardman; brothers Sylvester, Larry (Yvonne) Hoffman and Clarence (Agnes) Hoffman; sisters Dorothy (Bill) Peaslee and Mary (Harry) Kosmatka.The Christensen family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Aspirus Riverview Hospital for the wonderful care given to LaVina.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Sacred Heart Church in Nekoosa.
