Root, Laverne L.Laverne L. Root, age 86, of Menasha passed away peacefully at his home with his son at his side on Saturday morning, December 3, 2016. He was born on January 28, 1930 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, son of the late Lester and Thelma Root. Laverne was a proud member of the United States Coast Guard Reserves. On November 24, 1973 he married Gloria A. Root and the couple brought their young families together for 42 years before Gloria preceded him in death earlier this year. Vern drove truck for most of his life, mostly for Neenah Foundry and then for Joyce Bros./Allied. He loved dogs, swimming, and sunning on his deck. He was also a HAM Radio operator with the handle N9RQM.He will be sadly missed by his children: Richard Root, Eau Claire; Daniel Root, Eau Claire; Ann Root, Menasha; Mark (Kerry) Root, Menasha; Vicky Root, Neenah; Pam Root, Neenah; step-daughters: Linda (Herb) Giebisch, Neenah; Cindy (Rob) Shaw, Sherwood; Tammy Spierings, Kimberly; a step-son, Mark Seager, Appleton; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters: Lorraine Bucklew, Eau Claire; Ardith (Don) Hopf, Eau Claire. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Gloria, Vern was preceded in death by Sonia Root, the mother of his children; step-son Scott Seager; granddaughter Jennifer Ales; great grandson Jackson Kloss; and his brother Emert Root.The Funeral Service for Laverne will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Military Honors will be performed immediately following the Christian Funeral Service.
