November 29, 1932 – October 20, 2025
A woman whose wisdom could carry you through a lifetime, Mrs. Leveda Allen was a constant presence and guiding light in the lives of all who were blessed to know her. With a spirit both strong and gentle, she lived a life of faith, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Leveda Allen, daughter of the late Booker T. Washington and Osceola Abercrombie Washington, was born on November 29, 1932, in Waskom, Texas. She attended the public schools of Waskom and, at an early age, confessed her faith in Jesus Christ. She was baptized at Union Chapel Baptist Church in Waskom, where her love for the Lord began a lifelong journey of service and steadfast belief.
In 1949, Leveda was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Willie T. Allen, a union that stood as a true testament to love and faithfulness for 69 blessed years. Together they raised twelve children, creating a home filled with laughter, strength, and prayer.
On October 20, 2025, Mrs. Leveda Allen peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie T. Allen, Sr.; her parents; her son, Willie T. Allen, Jr.; four brothers—Lorenza, John, Eddie, and Clarence Washington; and three sisters—Ruby Rowe, Essie Hayes, and Ora Washington.
Her legacy lives on through her devoted children: Francis (Anthony) Harris, Dorothy Yancy, Ivry (Rhonda) Allen, all of Marshall, TX; Mary L. Allen of Waskom, TX; Ray (Martha) Allen of Mesquite, TX; Frankie (Robert) Blakes of Bossier City, LA; Shelia Allen of Marshall, TX; Albert Allen of Dallas, TX; Catherine (Wendell) Holmes of Garland, TX; Christopher (Shirley) Allen of Mesquite, TX; and Jonathan (Tameka) Allen of Irving, TX.
She will also be remembered with deep affection by 31 grandchildren, and too many great-grands and great-great-grands to count, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
Mrs. Leveda Allen’s life was a living testimony of faith, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her words had a way of settling hearts and her advice—a steady compass—will continue to guide those who loved her. She was the rock on which her family stood, a woman of quiet strength whose gentle touch and radiant smile brought warmth wherever she went.
Though she has gone home to be with the Lord, her spirit remains forever present—in the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the countless lives she touched.
