This obituary is administered by:
In Memory of Larry Bruce Peacock Garner Larry Bruce Peacock, 73, of Garner, NC passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh. He was born on May 31, 1943 and grew up in Johnston County. He graduated from Benson High School in 1961. At age 17, he met Margaret Marie Beasley, who became his high school sweetheart and "the light of his life." They married at age 18 in 1961. They were married over 55 years and were blessed with three children: Angie, Gina, and Jason. Bruce was a wonderful, fun-loving father. In the early years of their marriage, before having their own children, neighborhood children would knock on the door and ask "Mrs. Peacock, can Mr. Peacock come out to play?" Bruce had a larger-than-life personality. He was extraordinarily kind and generous toward everyone. Many people have said that when Bruce entered a room, it was as if sunshine was beaming through his infectious smile. He always had a cheerful word for everyone and made each person feel special. Bruce enjoyed many hobbies. He started singing around the age of three and continued with his beautiful singing until near the end. Singing was a joy to him and to all who heard him. He sang solos in church, and at one point in his life, he was the lead singer in a country music band called Southern Sound. He also read voraciously, loved horseback riding on the challenging trails at Stewart's Horse Farm in Godwin, NC, and fished avidly in bass tournaments. According to him, he always caught the largest fish. He was a real jokester, and if you were around him any length of time, he would tell you a joke or two. Or three! Bruce was in the construction industry all of his life, having followed in his father's footsteps. He was the owner of Peacock Drywall Co., Inc., and was so beloved by the people he employed. He was a faithful and devoted member of Garner Advent Christian Church. Bruce was also on the board at Camp Dixie Advent Christian Camp in Fayetteville, NC for over 30 years. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ellen Peacock, and his brother, Jerry Peacock. Bruce is survived by his wife, Margaret Beasley Peacock; daughters Angie Carroll (Brad) of Four Oaks, NC, Gina Peacock-Byrd (Johnny) of Franklin, TN; son, Jason Peacock (Cassie) of Garner, NC; grandchildren, Alex Gahrmann, Justin Gahrmann, McKenzie Peacock, Tyler Peacock, Dixie Byrd, Johnny Mac Byrd, Sadie Byrd, Jesse Byrd, Jake Byrd, Callia Byrd, Judah Byrd; great-granddaughter Rozlin Gahrmann. Bruce is also survived by sisters Gail Barefoot (Larry) of Garner, NC; Patsy West of Clayton, NC; Peggy Johnson (Larry) of Dunn, NC; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Services honoring Bruce's life will begin with a visitation on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home at 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC. The following day, Sunday, October 30, 2016 Bruce's celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm at Garner Advent Christian Church at 1120 Vandora Springs Road, Garner, NC. Rev. Kenny Latimore and Rev. Joe Brown will officiate. The graveside service and burial will be held at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church, 1771 NC Highway 50 E, Benson, NC immediately following the celebration of life. The family wishes to express our deepest thanks to the wonderful staff at the Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh for their unmatched professionalism and genuine compassion which exceeded our expectations and was truly a blessing. Flowers are welcome and contributions may be made in Bruce's memory to Garner Advent Christian Church, 1120 Vandora Springs Road, Garner, NC 27529.
