Kenneth L. Barter1929 - 2013Kenneth L. Barter, 84, of Kenosha and Hollyday, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Hospice Alliance-Hospice House. Ken was born on Aug. 12, 1929, to William and Amelia (Gunther) Barter in Pleasant Prairie. He attended Pleasant Prairie grade school, was a Boy Scout and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. He was very involved in the community. He played baseball for many years and was the youngest member of the Nobby Lobby Tavern baseball team. Ken was a dairy farmer for many years. In 1971, he developed and operated the Westwood Mobile Home Park until 1984, when he sold it and became a Snow Bird, retiring to Hollyday, Fla., but he always remained a loyal Packer Fan. He was the Pleasant Prairie town chairman from 1965 until 1966. He was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Volunteer Fire Department. Ken was also a member of the Kenosha Noon Lions Club and helped with the transportation of eyes to Milwaukee.Ken may have left the farm in 1971, but he never stopped his love of farming. His garden was his pride and joy. Over the years he sold vegetables to local restaurants and at the Milwaukee Farmers Market. Later in life, his joy came from giving the fruits of his labor to his friends and family. Ken married Lorraine McDowell on March 18, 1965.He was preceded in death by, his parents; four brothers, Donald, Craig, John and Thomas and his sister, Helen Bender.Ken is survived by, his wife of 48 years, Lorraine of Kenosha; two daughters, Tina (Michael) Tyson and Cindy (John Badtke) Barter; his step-son, Allen (Karen) McDowell; his grandchildren, Michael and Kenneth McDowell, Melissa (Luke) Keberlein, Rebecca Tyson and Robert Foster; a great grandchild, Caden as well as his special friends who were always up for a competitive game of cards.Funeral services for Ken will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home with interment to follow in the South Bristol Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
