Kenneth L. Smiley was born on November 13, 1963 in Brunswick, Georgia to the union of James E. Smiley and Edith Stephens Smiley. He is preceded in death by his dad. He completed his earthly assignment on Monday, May 22, 2023 to transition from his natural life to have eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ken, affectionately known as “Smiley” by many, but was known by one as “Momma Son'', a special name shared between him and his mother. His aunt called him “Kenny Pop, Woe Woe woe” and his uncle called him “Rock”, a name that stuck with him by his relatives.
Kenneth leaves to deeply treasure his memory his daughter Kendra Buntyn (Joe), his son Kevyn Smiley and his sister, Andrea Farrar (Keith); three grands: Kendrick, Kendall and Kalena; nieces and nephews: Cierra (Corey), Alexis, Kaydin and Kai; two aunts: Bernice Williams & Brenda McGirth; one uncle: Aaron Stephens; bonus daughters: Ellese and Brittney; host of cousins and friends, and close friend Charlie Quickly to cherish his memory.
At an early age, he and his family moved to Baltimore, MD for better job opportunities. Kenneth would visit Georgia every year during his summer breaks, taking full advantage of the country life. He later moved back to Georgia, a place he cherished, to live briefly amongst his relatives that he loved dearly. It was there where he learned how to fish, swim and landscape, just to name a few.
He joined church as a young boy in Georgia, and enjoyed singing in the gospel choir. In later years, he often volunteered at various churches doing carpentry work. He was a member of Ark Church.
He was educated in Brunswick, Georgia and the Baltimore city public school systems, and graduated from Lake Clifton high school in 1982. Afterwards, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country as an Army Private 2nd Class where he was blessed to travel the world.
After completing his assignment in the U.S. Army, he learned a trade as a Drywall Finisher, which he mastered. Mastering his craft provided him many different job opportunities in carpentry, in which he was sought after by many, for he was known as a perfectionist. He would travel to other states such as Florida, New York, Georgia, D.C., West VA and Philly to work. He even traveled to Texas to assist with the restoration of homes and businesses after a major storm.
Kenneth had a passion for the arts in many areas. As a young boy, he loved to draw, and took karate for many years. He also loved to dance and skate, which he was great at! He was a competitive pool player; winning numerous tournaments and awards. Moreover, Kenneth was known as a passionate music lover. He loved R&B, Old School Hip Hop and Gospel - he loved Quartet music in particular. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and crabbing in his spare time.
Ken loved children and had a passion for pets. He leaves behind his pets, TaTa and MacKenzie that he had for over 12 years.
