Kay Louise RyanMitchellvilleKay Louise (Jay) Ryan, 76, of Mitchellville, died on June 17, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, resulting from injuries suffered in a car accident. A Celebration of Life Memorial is being planned for late July, with a graveside service and inurnment at the Mitchellville, Iowa cemetery. All are welcome to join us in celebrating this special woman that we called Mom, Grandma, Nana, Friend or simply Kay.Kay Louise Ryan was born on August 3, 1940, in Union, Iowa the daughter of Dale and Marcia (Bittner) Jay. She was preceded in death by her parents Dale Jay and Marcia (Walt) Brothers. Left to cherish Kay's memory include her husband Joel W. Bittner of Mitchellville; her daughter, Kimberlee (Bob) Carney of rural Maxwell; her son, Joel Thorson of Des Moines; granddaughters Melissa Carney and Candi (Matt) Nicolaisen and great-grandchildren, Kaleb Carney, Cameron Nicolaisen and Addison Nicolaisen.Kay was a graduate of Laurel Community School. Kay knew at a young age that she wanted to be a Registered Nurse; and after graduating high school, Kay went on to get her nursing degree and worked her entire life serving others. Before retirement, Kay was a Registered Nurse, for over 20 years, at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.Memorial contributions may be directed to her family for a future designation.
