RACINE - Katherine “Kaye” (nee: Pappas) Jensen, 86, passed away at her residence on Friday, April 29, 2016. She was born on May 5, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Elizabeth (Wagner) Pappas. Kaye graduated from Washington Park High School, Class of 1947. On February 2, 1979 she was united in marriage to Russell Jensen at Holy Communion Lutheran Church. She was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church. Kaye was active with the Racine Kilties, Kiltie Kapers and the Ambassa “Dears”. She also was the creator of Schwobble, a TV game show at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital. Kaye loved to paint, crochet and knit and enjoyed her dinners with her Red Hat friends. Music and entertainment were a lifetime passion. She especially loved barbershop harmony. Kaye sang with The Merry Muggs quartet for 35 years. She also sang with several award winning quartets, most notably the 1951 International Champions, The Quarternotes. Kaye was a lifetime member of Sweet Adeline’s International, the Racine Sweet Adeline Chorus, and sang bass with the award winning Melodeers Chorus of Northbrook, Illinois. Kaye worked at WRAC radio, the Shoreline Leader, Blaha-Muth Advertising Agency, and J.I. Case Company. She is survived by her children, Scott (Gretchen) Poulsen of DeForest, Sue (Rick) Geiss, Mary (Rick) Mauldin, & Edie (Tim) Hauch, all of Racine. Grandchildren, Keith (Beth) Poulsen, Julie (Michael) Monahan, Elizabeth Geiss, Ricky (fiancé Krystal Wienke) Geiss, Greg (Melissa) Mauldin, James (fiancé Stephanie Evans) Mauldin, Ashley (Michael) Licari, Ben (Megan Sluga) Hauch. She was “Grandma Kaye the Great” to Alyssa and Evan Ludwig, Taylor and Nathan Monahan, Caleb and Jack Poulsen, Grace and Noah Mauldin. Kaye is also survived by a Special Cousin Lucky LaMeer and a host of cousins, dear friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Russ, her mother Elizabeth Smigun and her father, James Pappas. Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church 2000 West Sixth Street on Thursday, May 5, 2016 with Pastor Mark Doidge officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 pm until time of service at 6:30 pm. A graveside service will be held at West Lawn Memorial Cemetery on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10:00 am.
