Karna Martha Markle, age 103, of Painted Post, formerly of Caton, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2017 at home. She was born on September 23, 1913 in Big Flats, the daughter of Andrew and Linnie L. (VanDeren) Peterson. She married Norman Reid Markle on March 22, 1936 in Corning. He predeceased her in 1977. Karna graduated from Northside High School and she volunteered at the Rockwell Museum for 35 years and also volunteered at the Benjamin Patterson Inn and Corning Hospital. She also enjoyed traveling through the western United States and she was an avid nature lover.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Warren Andrew and Nancy Markle of Elmira, daughter and son-in-law, Debra L. and John Zeller of Newtown Square, PA, grandchildren, Kyle Andrew (Jessica) Zeller and Patrick Sullivan Zeller, great grandson, Harrison Reid Zeller, sister-in-law, Jeanette Denson of Painted Post, and many nieces and nephews. Karna was predeceased by her sisters, Pearl Roy and Helen Dolores Peterson, and a brother Walter Peterson.Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 West Pulteney Street in Corning on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
