Karen Brooks McGinnis76, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. She was born on December 12, 1940 to Edward and Florence (Greenwood) Brooks in Indianapolis, IN.Karen attended Broad Ripple High School, followed by Indiana University where she graduated in 1962 with a degree in Radio and Television. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was very involved with the drama department and worked summers acting in plays on the Showboat on the Ohio River. On December 30, 1962, she married John B. McGinnis. She worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections as a Superintendent at several institutions for 30 years. Karen was an avid reader and loved animals, travel, and spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren.She is survived by her beloved husband of almost 55 years, John, her brother David Brooks, daughters Kathleen McGinnis and Colleen (Kreag) Holtkamp, and grandchildren Katherine and Brooks Holtkamp.She is being cremated at Crown Hill in Indianapolis.
