Julio G. Montaño, 89, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Las Vegas.He was born on Oct. 13, 1924 in Las Vegas to Ramon Montaño and Francisquita Esquibel.He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a member of the United States Army Corp. He was a comedian and enjoyed going to church. He was well-known throughout the community and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone.A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Francisquita Montaño; sons, Starky George Montaño and Moises Montaño; aunt, Amelia Baca; and sister, Martha Jacoby.He is survived by his wife, Oralia Montaño of the family home; daughters and sons, Ramona K. Montano and husband, Darcy Madrid, of Las Vegas, Anthony Montaño and wife, Margaret, of Las Vegas, Toby Montaño and wife, Rita, of Louisiana; Rick Montaño and wife, Elizabeth of Las Cruces, Judy Montaño of Las Vegas, Deborah Montaño of Albuquerque; 27 grandchildren; special great-grandson, Ethan Montaño; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Anita Vigil and husband Louie of Las Vegas; sisters-in-law, Cruzita Alires and husband, Sam, and Josie Maes, all of Las Vegas; special niece: Eileen Ortiz and husband, Danny, of Las Vegas; nephew, Tristan Martinez of Las Vegas; special friend, Joe Mares; special grandkids, Layla and Leticia Jaramillo and Darren Madrid; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. today (Monday) with Father Robert Peccatiello as celebrant. Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas, with full military honors and the following serving as casket bearers: John Jaramillo, Brandon Jaramillo, Joseph Montaño, Eric Montaño, Francisco Montaño and Christopher Montaño.
