A life well lived

Joyce Doan, of Indianapolis went to be with her Lord and Savior in paradise on Wednesday January 3, 2024. Joyce Doan, also playfully referred to as "John" by loved ones (as a result of her rough housing antics as a child) was born in Dunville, Ky on July 4, 1932. Survived by, Brother Charles "Pete" Luttrell, And sister, Pauline Vaughn.

A devoted mother of six girls; Brenda, Sondra (1952-2014), Billie Jo, Debbie, Tammy, and Lisa. A loving grandmother to sixteen. A great grandmother to thirty six. As well as great, great grandmother to twenty one. She is preceded in death by her mother Chloe Luttrell, Father James Everett Luttrell. Brother, Gerald "Poochie" Luttrell. As well as her daughter, Sondra Thompson. She worked for several years as a caregiver at St. Vincent New Hope, as well as Esg Security. Also to be mentioned, all of her son-in-laws that she loved dearly and adopted as her own. Joyce was a woman who had a servants heart. She loved her family, and friends so whole heartedly, that she wouldn't hesitate to go the extra mile for each and every one. Even if it meant giving her last. She had a spectacular, unique, and treasured bond with each and every member of her gigantic family. Joyce was the kind of person who had a contagious laugh. She was always smiling about something, even the smallest of things. You could meet eyes with her from across the room and laugh hysterically at the same thing without even speaking a word. She didn't stay put long, she loved hopping in that car of hers and breaking speed limit laws all over the city getting from one place to the next. She was always giving one friend a ride to the store, the next a ride to the doctor, stopping into a daughters house, and then rushing to the post office before closing time. If she was home she was likely to be found on the phone filling everybody in on what was going on with the family, or watching young & the restless which she had watched faithfully since its beginning. A pot of beans was likely to be cooking on the stove top. Her daughters were raised to be strong and independent. If you messed with one she would send them ALL your way. She showed us how to love, and to love unconditionally. She taught us to pray, and was a living example of Gods supplication, and healing power. Although she never had much, she never did go without. Her faith always stood the trials of life. She seemed to be fearless, but it was the God in her that made her a warrior. She passed that on to each of her daughters and they passed it on to theirs and so forth. The youngest of grandkids would cling to her, they hung out with her happily! She was that much fun to be around! She got every joke, and could give one right back to you with no problem. To feel her hand of comfort and hear her say "grandma knows hun" was instant relief of whatever was burdening your heart at the time. The last few years of her life were trying, and extremely difficult as her health declined and her physical ability was stripped away. She battled and overcame many ailments, the loss of a daughter, as well as total loss of her independence. No matter how sick she was at any given time, if there was a gathering, or a loved one in need she longed to be there and many times no matter how hard it was on her tired body she would see to it that her daughter and grandson would get her there. She was able to remain at home and with family until the end, she never ran low on love. She demonstrated tremendous endurance throughout her entire life. She clung to her cross and kept on fighting forward. Joyce was an example that it didn't take much money, or material things to enjoy life. As a matter of fact she enjoyed life so thoroughly I know she wouldn't have had it any other way. She was a caretaker at heart, her home was open to any and everybody who needed it always! She enjoyed good old time music (George jones, Vince Gill, Elvis Presley, and jerry lee Lewis among others). She spoke her mind, stood her ground, and would take you to fist city as she called it if necessary. Small in stature at just about 5ft tall, she had the strength of a giant and a fighting spirit willing to stand up for what was right and true. A woman who for years wouldn't have an animal step foot in her home, had her heart stolen one day by a little yorkie named Charlie. Charlie went on to be her seventh baby as she often stated. He was her comfort in the weakest of times, her little protector, and her other half. Joyce was truly one of a kind. Only a beautiful, kind, gracious, almighty God in heaven could create such an all around wonderful human being. She passed no judgment, she simply loved. I emphasize simply because she lived a simple, humble life. If her family was healthy and happy, Diet Pepsi was in the fridge, her hair was "purrty" and her nails were shiny red, she was content as could be sitting out on the porch in the summers with the housephone and her Tupperware cup shaking her ice up to make sure the soda was cold. She was an overcomer, her life was so eventful, and while putting God above all, her family was everything to her. She set an example to be followed. She lived an honest life. She just lived, happily… on love
