Josephine BlockJosephine Block, 87, of Pompton Lakes, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. She was born on July 23, 1930 in Connecticut to Josephine (Markana) and Peter Rassam. She was raised by John and Mary Haboob of West New York, NJ after the untimely deaths of her birth parents. Josephine attended Memorial High School, Rutgers University, and was a resident of Pompton Lakes for 47 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Sheldon Block, also of Pompton Lakes, NJ.Josephine enjoyed visiting with family and friends, entertaining, fine dining, theatre and symphonies and was an enthusiastic reader. She lived a life of service. She volunteered throughout her life and continued after retirement as she spent her days volunteering at the Pompton Lakes Library and Chilton Memorial Hospital. Josephine was a long time active member of Temple Beth Tikvah In Wayne, NJ. The Hebrew school children loved when "Mrs. Block" would visit their classroom to read to them. Josephine worked in Finance, Real Estate and Day Care prior to a 25 year career with Cablevision. She is survived by her children, Claudia Camarro and her husband, Paul; Nina Renee; and Adam Block. She adored her grandchildren Michelle Flett and her husband Gerald; Jennifer Nelson and her husband, Matthew; Lisa Camarro and her fiancé, Diana Cassa; and David Fleishman and his wife Rebecah; and her great grandchildren Caleb Flett, Harper Flett, and Jesse Fleishman.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Robert Schoem's Memorial Chapel in Paramus, NJ. The family will be sitting Shiva at the Block residence on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7:30 PM, Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 7:00 PM, and Monday, October 2, 2017 at 7:30 PM.As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in the name of "Josephine Block" to the .
