Jose Roger Valdez, 66, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, in Las Vegas.He was born on May 22, 1949, to Fulgencio Valdez and Frances Romero Valdez in Las Animas, Colo.Jose served in Vietnam conflict war and was awarded two bronze medals and other commendations. He worked as a psych tech at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute.A Catholic, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.He was preceded in death by his parents: Fulgencio and Frances Valdez; in-laws: Carmel and Maria Gonzales and brother: Steve Valdez.He is survived by his wife: Rita Valdez of the family home; daughter: LouAnn Marquez and husband, Phillip, of Las Vegas; sons: Roger James Valdez of Las Vegas, Edward Leroy Valdez and Tammy Lucero of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; sisters and brother: Rose Sandoval and husband, Ron, of Garden City, Kan., Darlene Lambert of Denver, Abel Valdez of Denver, Corrine Benavidez of Garden City, Kan., Nora Ortiz of Garden City, Kan., Dolores Valdez of Pampa, Texas; brother-in-law: Carmen Gonzales and wife, Lena, of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law: Dolores Pyle, and Carmen Gonzales, both of Albuquerque, and Cathy Nuñez of Las Vegas; several nieces and nephews.Rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Monday also at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following serving as casket bearers: Roger James Valdez, Edward Valdez, Phillip Marquez, Leroy Valdez, Raymond Gonzales and Donald Gallegos.
