Jose "Tony" López, 84, has left his beloved family home in Ocate to join his wife, Agnes, his parents, and his brothers in Heaven. Jose, a well-known owner of Tony's Store, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, while holding the hand of his daughter, Prescilla Pappas, at his side at Alta Vista Regional Hospital.Tony's passing marks an end of a generation for the Lorenzo and Juanita López family. Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Agnes; his sons, Lorenzo López, Jimmy and Eddie Wood; and his brothers, Simon, Eloy, Alberto, and Carlos.Tony, a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, was born on May 8, 1930, in the marble room in the family home in the heart of Ocate.He will be remembered for his quick wit, humor and contagious laugh. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and many friends. Anyone who met Tony created a lifetime friendship with him. Due to having the sole store in the small town, Tony, welcomed many visitors to tour his family home. Many of the visitors were authors who returned to their homes and featured Tony in their books.He is survived by his daughter, Prescilla Pappas and husband, Bill, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Anthony and wife, Mona, of Albuquerque, Ruben and wife, Carrie, of Ocate, and Max and wife, Sally Rivera, of Ocate; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins. He is also survived by his fellow Ocate residents and customers. Upon Agnes' passing in 2002, Tony would travel to Phoenix to spend time with Prescilla and Bill where he was able to grow his family with the Borgs and Pappas families.In honor of Tony's wishes he has been cremated and no formal services are planned. A celebration of his life will take place during the 30th Annual López Family Reunion on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 2 at Hillcrest Restaurant followed by a procession to the family home in Ocate where Tony's cremains will be buried in the garden of the multi-generation family home.Visit www.nelsonfuneralhomelv.com for online condolences.Funeral arrangements for Mr. López have been entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home; 801 Douglas Ave, Las Vegas; 425-6551.
