Jose Ramon Santiago, 74, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away surrounded by family on April 30, 2024.

Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on August 10, 1949, Cheo, as many of his family and friends affectionately knew him, came to Las Vegas during the construction boom of the early 70's. Cheo was a skilled craftsman and worked for the City of Las Vegas as a painter, and drywall hanger early in his working career. As he progressed in his skills and experience he went on to work for the Clark County School District as a custodian and later after putting himself through night school, transferred to the Clark County Public Works department where he worked as an electricians helper in the traffic lighting division. Jose enjoyed participating and running in 5k races and mini marathons, and is credited for running a race that commemorated the opening of the US95 at Las Vegas Blvd. Cheo's name can be found on a bronze landmark just north of the southern onramp. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends.

Jose is survived by his two daughters Elsie, and Michelle. His son’s Joseph, Jimmy, Marcos, and Jose Antonio, and multiple grandchildren. His brother Hector, sister Mary, and her daughters Candy, Sharon, Grisselle and his nephew Carlos. Jose is preceded by his mother, Julia, his father Ramon, his brother Jose Antonio, and his son Jose Alexis.

Services will be held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church located at 1840 N. Bruce St, N. Las Vegas, NV 89030 @3:00pm. Seating begins at 2:30pm. Reception will be held after the service at 2284 Wesley Manor Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89156 @5:00pm. Food will be served.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
