John W. ElmoreJohn Walter "Moe" Elmore, 75, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 5:53 A.M., in Lafayette, IN. He was born on March 12, 1941 in Rensselaer, IN to the late Dean G. and Dorothy (Fischer) Elmore.John proudly served in the United States Air Force. He married Rita (Stokes) Elmore on January 24, 1963 in Sumter, South Carolina. He worked in manufacturing at Fairfield for more than forty years before retiring. John also worked part-time as a courtesy van driver for Mike Raisor Ford.  John was a member of United Autoworkers Chapter 2317 Retirees, Boy Scouts of America, and the union hall. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing.  In addition to his wife, John is survived by three children: John D. (wife: April) Elmore, of New Albany, IN, Patrick D. (wife: Kathy) Elmore, and Mary (husband: Chris) Dowty, both of Franklin, IN. He is also survived by one sister, Janice (husband: Fritz) May, of West Lafayette, IN, and three grandchildren: Megan, Ian, and Claire.John is preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, James Elmore.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hippensteel Funeral Home. A private graveside service will follow on Thursday, March 9, 2017. In honor of John, memorials may be donated to the Boy Scouts, Sagamore Council.
