John C. Parrish, Jr.New FreedomJohn C. Parrish, Jr. 81, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Gail (Shearer) Parrish, to whom he was married 61 years.Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with Pastor Tina Minnich officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held in New Freedom Cemetery.John was born on November 22, 1935 on the New Freedom family farm, a son of the late John C. Parrish, Sr. and Margaret (Keeny) Parrish. He was stationed in El Paso, TX after joining the Army in 1955. John followed in his father's footsteps and was a lifelong dairy farmer; he enjoyed his work. After retirement John and Gail traveled, seeing all 50 states and multiple countries. John's pride and joy was his family and his farm. The farm he was born on, lived on, and worked on is the same farm he died on. His family is thankful for the farm he provided that holds many memories. John was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus.In addition to his beloved wife Gail, John is survived by a son, Rick Parrish and his companion, Sue Dudley; a daughter, Brenda Day and her husband, Gerry; four grandchildren, Colt, Sara, Tobi, Stephen; two great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters; and a brother, Donald Parrish; and a sister, Linda Michal.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of York County, P.O.
