John Elton Smith, age 83, of Oscoda, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on May 1, 1933 in Malone, N.Y. to the late Bernard and Marian Smith. John retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Oscoda Yacht Club, Iosco Sportsman Club, Coast Guard Auxiliary and the American Legion for 56 years. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy E. Clark Smith; son, John E. Smith Jr. and his wife, Betty Delano Smith; daughter, Dawn Lizette Smith Morphey and her husband, William Morphey and grandchildren, Maureen Elizabeth Smith and David John Smith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 274 in Oscoda. Condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
