This obituary is administered by:
John Douglas WORDIE 1925-2017 Douglas (Doug) died peacefully during the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in West Chester, Ohio. Doug is survived by his niece Terri Wordie (Chris Carles, Tyler Carles, Adam Carles) his nephew Jason Wordie (Anca Radom, Simone Radom) and his sister-in-law Eileen Elizabeth Wordie. Doug was special and important to his friends and family in his native Alberta, Canada, his beloved community in Long Beach California, and most recently in West Chester, Ohio. Doug was born on June 17, 1925 in Calgary, Alberta and grew up in the nearby town of Didsbury. In 1947, after graduating from the University of Alberta, Doug moved to California where he completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley in 1949. After graduation, Doug began his career with Texas Co. as a Chemist in Beacon, NY. He served honorably as part of the United States Army Chemical Corps and Army Reserve form 1950-1954. Doug found his passion in the financial services industry and spent the remainder of his career with Transamerica. During his retirement he became a near daily fixture at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. A fine piano player and musician, Doug enjoyed the wide variety of bands and music played daily in the parks. Doug was a devoted member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church community in Long Beach where he demonstrated his generous and caring spirit. Doug loved to make the pilgrimage home to Alberta in summer where he'd visit his relatives and close friends from childhood. The trip home always included a visit to Banff, where as a child he and his family spent much of their summer vacations. He was predeceased by his parents Jock and Mary Wordie, his two brothers Gordon Wilson Wordie and William Cameron Wordie, and his nephew James Cameron Wordie. With respect for Doug's wishes no funeral services will be held. In remembrance of Doug and to honor his commitment to charitable giving, for friends who so wish, donations may be made to a charity of their choosing.
