He married Carolyn Johnson and they lived together in New Orleans, Louisiana. Together they raised 4 children John D.Johnson III, Talia Nisby (Desean Nisby), Angle Johnson , Jalicia Johnson . He is also survived by 4 grandchildren.

John graduated from West Jefferson in 1974.

John worked at Greyhound until he retired in 55 and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people.
